Consider using Sysinternals' Autoruns to find any startup entry that references pavwait.dll, and disable it. Do you have Panda Antivirus installed, or did you have it installed at one time? If so, consider reinstalling it, and if necessary or desirable, uninstall it again.

I did have Panda installed but switched to virgin media system security about 3 years ago. Not really possible for me to reinstall Panda. I have found a PAVWAI.DLL file in my C drive which appears to have been created on 25/03/10. I am not sure however on how to disable it.

Did you run Autoruns and use its Find feature (CTRL+F) to locate pavwait.dll in the list? Once you find it, clear the check box associated with the line item.

Can you provide some specifics about the problem you're having? Autoruns may be of help, but it is hard to say without any details about the problem.
